Cil-lonydd Solar

We’re delighted to have received permission from Welsh Government to develop Cil-lonydd Solar, an innovative renewable energy scheme that in addition to producing 35MW of clean, green energy, will also bring a wide range of benefits to the local community.

We’re excited to move into the next phase of this project and continue driving positive change for future generations.

Overview

In partnership with RES...

To optimise utilisation of the grid network with the highest amount of clean electricity, we are sharing a grid connection with the nearby Mynydd Maen Wind Farm being developed by RES. Wind and solar power complement each other by hitting energy production peaks at different times of day, ensuring a consistent supply of renewable power.

Community

Our application was crafted through considered engagement with local residents and Caerphilly County Borough Council. This included a series of brochure drops to the local area keeping people updated regarding our plans.

We’re looking to support organisations and clubs in the local community, to ensure that the project brings tangible benefits to the area.

If you’re an organisation, club or individual in the Cil-lonydd area and would welcome such support, please contact us to find out more.

Education

We believe helping future generations understand the need for changes in the way we live is essential.

As part of our commitment to help understand this need, we’ve offered all Year 6 pupils from schools within 5km of Cil-lonydd Solar a free educational visit to our Parc Stormy base, as well as covering the cost of their transport.

Please contact visitus@cenin.co.uk if you would like to find out more, or to arrange a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar power is a low emission form of energy production, and the environmental impact of installation is negligible when compared to the impact of more conventional energy sources. Cil-lonydd Solar will supply electricity to the local distribution network and produce 35MW of electricity every year, that’s the equivalent total power required for over 12,500 homes.

Cil-lonydd Solar will be located on land to the east of Pantside and south of Hafodyrynys, in between two areas of woodland. The site itself is agricultural land with a farmyard.

No – solar panels contain no moving parts and thus produce no noise once installed.

Locally produced energy will feed directly into the local energy network, providing a stable, cost-effective source of power for Caerphilly and the surrounding area.

The site will be in complete darkness at night, with no security lighting.

This solar site will reduce the carbon emissions created in supplying Caerphilly’s energy needs by around 15,000 tons of carbon every year, for the foreseeable future.

Cil-lonydd Solar will be delivered by Bridgend based company CENIN. Visit www.cenin.co.uk to see some examples of our previous, ground-breaking work across Wales.

This project is being developed by CENIN, a Bridgend-based, family-owned business, specialising in the development of integrated energy systems.

Through our innovative approach to building integrated renewable energy systems, we unlock greater potential to provide more value to local communities, increase wellbeing and ultimately leave Wales a better place for our future generations.
